About the IDSWG
Leadership Team
The IDSWG is led by a volunteer leadership team drawn from pharmaceutical industry, academic medicine, and the broader biostatistics community. Leadership positions are appointed by Core Team vote, with nominations welcomed from the membership.
Leads and coordinates the efforts of the leadership team and provides strategic direction to the group. Chairs core team meetings. Serves as liaison with sponsors (currently DahShu), participates in sponsor leadership team meetings, and communicates relevant topics back to the IDSWG leadership team.

Organizational Structure
The IDSWG operates through three layers of participation:
- Leadership Team, Chair, Vice Chairs, and Co-Leaders set strategic direction, represent the group externally, and support sub-team leads. The team holds regular quarterly meetings.
- Core Team, Composed of sub-team chairs and initiative leaders. Coordinates activity across the group and shapes the scientific agenda. Initiative leaders were added to the Core Team in 2025.
- Sub-teams and Initiatives, Volunteer-driven working groups focused on specific methodological or operational topics. Members may observe, contribute, lead, or propose new groups at any time. See the Sub-teams page for a full listing.
Any member considering a new sub-team or stepping into a leadership role is encouraged to prepare a one-page concept and schedule a 30–60 minute consultation with the leadership team.
Membership
Current membership stands at approximately 200 members representing pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, contract research organizations, academic medical centers, health authorities, and patient advocacy organizations across the United States, Europe, and Japan.
Patient advocates are full and valued members of the IDSWG, not external consultants. The group’s Patient Engagement Sub-team (currently seeking a new leader) focuses specifically on ensuring that trial designs reflect patient priorities, burden, and experience. Embedding patient perspectives from the earliest design stages is a core principle of the group’s work.

The IDSWG operates under the DahShu umbrella, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing data science in drug development and healthcare. DahShu hosts an annual Data Science Symposium and supports multiple scientific working groups. More information is available at dahshu.wildapricot.org.
